Educational Background: Master’s Degree in Ocean Engineering, Stevens Institute of Technology, 2004; Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Widener University, 1989

Professional Experience: Steve has practiced in the field of coastal engineering, floodplain management, and emergency management since 1989, with involvement in coastal and marine related projects from New Jersey to New Orleans. In 2008 Steve founded, and has been President of, Coastal Waterways Design and Engineer LLC based in Vero Beach, Florida. Coastal Waterways specializes in permitting and design of marine and coastal waterway projects, provides expert testimony on coastal construction and floodplain regulatory compliance, and develops coastal resilient community projects and programs.

Professional and Community Affiliations, Activities and Certifications: Steve is a Florida Licensed Professional Engineer and is a nationally sanctioned Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM). Steve is a FEMA Course Instructor, Chairman of the Coastal Committee for the Florida Floodplain Managers Association (FFMA), former Indian River County Code Enforcement Board Engineer Appointee, has served as a panelist for the NOAA “Improving Community Resilience Through Risk Modeling and Integrated Planning” and as a Coastal Subject Matter Expert at the Florida Flood Risk Symposium. Steve has also served in the Indian River Soccer Association, United Way, St. Helen Catholic Church and School, and the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Council.

Interests: Camping, snorkeling, kayaking, backpacking, most any outdoor activity with his wife, son and two daughters.

Unique Story: Served the Deepwater Horizon Incident Command on the Area-wide Severe Weather Planning Team. Discerning service to his parish as an ordained deacon and is currently enrolled as a non-resident student at St. Vincent DePaul Seminary School in Boca Raton in pursuit of a master’s degree in Theology.
