Biographical

Educational Background:    Coral Gables High School, Miami, Florida; Orange County Junior College, California.

 

Professional Experience:    Ms. Byrd previously worked in the construction industry on Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas. She was the co-owner of a sub-contracting company in the 1970’s in Fort Lauderdale. She moved to Stuart, Florida in 1979 and has been active in many community projects, including beach renourishment and waterway legislation (including the Okeechobee Waterway).  She is also a member of the Business Development Board of Martin County.

 

Ms. Byrd is currently the owner of Coastal Realty of Stuart, Florida, which specializes in waterfront sales. She works regularly with the City of Stuart and Martin County staff to provide expertise in zoning and code regulations. Ms. Byrd is an active member of the Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast and is the current Treasurer of the Okeechobee Waterway Association. She is the Chairman of the Martin County Dredge Material Management Advisory Board.

 

Interests: Boating, diving, (PADI certified), aquariums (marine reef tanks), and owns a pet parrot named “Rah Rah”.

 

Unique Story: Ms. Byrd attended a 3-day event entitled “Becoming an Outdoors Woman”, sponsored by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. This event, held on the edge of the Florida Everglades, included workshops on canoeing, developing wilderness survival skills, handgun handling, and camping. She says she enjoys the sub-tropic zone of south Florida and has no plans to move further north.
