Brevard County Manatee Protection Zones
 

On August 28, 1990, The Governor and the Cabinet adopted a Manatee Protection Plan for Brevard County which included a number of boat speed regulatory zones designed to minimize the number boating accidents as well as accidental strikes by boats to manatees. The plan was amended on December 12, 1998 to include additional areas of the Barge Canal and Sykes Creek.  There are also speed regulatory zones by Federal Law within the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.
